We all know that technology plays a key role in our lives, and programming is at the heart of it. For David Abtour Idriss Derby, learning programming was an overwhelmingly positive experience that changed his life for the better.
David got his introduction to programming when he was in high school. He chose programming as the subject of his final project and discovered that he had a natural affinity for it. He quickly became fascinated by the complex patterns of coding and the challenges presented by problem-solving. Soon enough, he was spending his free time poring over syntax errors and mild frustrations, as well as the triumph and satisfaction of arriving at the right solution.
“I was initially drawn to programming because of the practical problem-solving aspect, but I quickly realized that I was captivated by the creative nature of the process,” David says. “Creating something out of nothing and having it work as I intended was a rewarding experience.”
This newfound passion led David to major in computer science in university. He loved the structured environment of the program, where he was able to explore such topics as data structures, algorithms, and computer organization. He was amazed by the breadth and depth of the subject and felt fully prepared to pursue a career in programming after completing his degree.
And career success did come for David. He landed a job as a software engineer at a major technology company, and three years later, he advanced to a senior position. “I remember feeling a great sense of pride and accomplishment when I got to this stage of my career,” David says. “It was a moment to reflect on all the hard work and dedication that had been required to reach this point.”
Today, David is living his dream of being a successful programmer and enjoys the challenges and opportunities that the field has to offer. He feels grateful for all the positive experiences he had while learning programming and the career opportunities it has provided him.
