The Under-19 World Cup 2024 in South Africa is just a few days away now, and the Indian team is participating in a triangular tournament there, along with the hosts and Afghanistan. Saumy Pandey, a left-arm spinner, on Friday not only returned with figures of 6/29, but also claimed a hat-trick in the match against Afghanistan.
Interestingly, Saumy went unsold recently during the IPL 2024 Auction, but now has proved his mettle. Courtesy of his excellent returns on the day, the opposition was bundled out for 198. The chase was also relatively easy for the Indians, as the match got over in the 37th over. Sarfaraz Khan’s younger brother, Musheer Khan had a part to play as well, as he scored 39 not out.

As far as Saumy is concerned, he removed Jamshid Zadran, Numan Shah, and Rahimullah Zumrati in successive balls, to claim his hat-trick. Meanwhile, this was only the first match of the tournament, and the final will be played on January 10.
