Saurashtra won the toss and elected to bowl first. Saurashtra’s bowlers did a fantastic job getting Jharkhand all out for 142 in the first innings. Chirag Jani stood out among Saurashtra’s bowlers, taking a fifer.
Harvik Desai and Sheldon Jackson gave Saurashtra a strong start after they lost Snell Patel early. From then onwards, it was all about the Pujara show. Coming in to bat at number 4, Pujara looked rock solid in front of a toothless Jharkhand bowling line-up. The middle-order batter played some good shots in the middle to help Saurashtra gain a sound lead.
The former India batter built a couple of good partnerships, first with opener Harvik Desai then with Arpit Vasavada to take Saurashtra in a commanding position in the match.
Pujara brought up his 100 in the second session of the second day, hitting 12 fours on its way. The batter is not out at the end of second session, batting at 109 of 167 balls. Now it remains to be seen if Pujara can take advantage of this Ranji season to reestablish himself in the Indian team.
