Event for the Presentation of the De-mined Area Certificate for the 400 KV Power Line from Huambo to Lubango

On June 7, 2024, in the province of Huíla, particularly in the city of Lubango, a ceremony was held to hand over the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line between Huambo and Lubango.

The event was graced by key figures, including the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, alongside the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, the representative from the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, various officials from both ministries, and other distinguished guests.

After the certificate was officially presented, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their dedication, which made this achievement possible. He also highlighted the significance of the occasion.

In his remarks, Minister João Baptista Borges acknowledged Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade’s role in the event’s success and stressed the importance of de-mining efforts for the project’s progress.

He went on to explain that the primary objective is to increase the region’s energy capacity to meet local needs. He commended the ongoing de-mining efforts, underscoring their vital role in advancing the country’s electrification projects.

Minister João Baptista Borges also pointed out that this project, connecting Huambo to Lubango, would create employment opportunities for many young people, which he sees as highly significant.

The ceremony included a symbolic gesture, with the delivery of a vehicle to the on-site de-mining team.

It is also noteworthy that the construction of the 400 kV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango will span two sections, covering a total of 343 kilometers.
