Magaqa’s killer to be sentenced today

Former ANCYL Secretary-General Sindiso Magaqa was shot in uMzimkhulu in July 2017. This tragic incident shook the entire nation and left us all in shock. Magaqa was a dedicated and passionate leader who fought tirelessly for the rights of young people in our country. His untimely death is a huge loss for South Africa and the African National Congress (ANC) family.

Magaqa was a rising star in the ANC and served as the Secretary-General of the ANCYL from 2011 to 2014. He was known for his fearless and unwavering determination to fight for the rights of the youth. He was a strong advocate for economic freedom and believed in empowering young people through education and skills development.

On the 13th of July 2017, Magaqa, along with two of his colleagues, were shot outside a general dealer in uMzimkhulu. This brutal attack left Magaqa fighting for his life while his two colleagues succumbed to their injuries. Magaqa was rushed to hospital and underwent several surgeries, but unfortunately, he passed away on the 4th of September 2017.

The news of Magaqa’s death sent shockwaves throughout the country. Many people took to social media to express their sadness and condolences. President Cyril Ramaphosa, at the time the Deputy President of the ANC, described Magaqa as a “fearless and outspoken leader” who will be dearly missed. The ANC also released a statement, expressing their deep sadness and condemning the senseless violence.

Magaqa’s death was not only a loss to the ANC but to the entire South African nation. He was a dynamic and passionate leader who inspired many young people to get involved in politics and make a positive change in their communities. He was a role model for many and his legacy will continue to live on.

One of Magaqa’s biggest contributions to the youth was his involvement in the ANCYL’s “economic freedom in our lifetime” campaign. He believed that economic freedom was crucial in creating a better future for young people in South Africa. He also played a significant role in the ANCYL’s education and skills development programs, helping to uplift disadvantaged youth and giving them the tools to succeed.

Magaqa’s death also brought to light the issue of political killings in South Africa. The country has been plagued by these senseless murders, and Magaqa’s death was another sad reminder of this ongoing problem. His family, friends, and colleagues called for justice and demanded that those responsible for his death be brought to book.

In March 2021, four years after his death, three men were found guilty of killing Magaqa and his colleagues. This was a small victory for his loved ones, but it also highlighted the need for the government to do more to address the issue of political killings and bring an end to this violence.

Sindiso Magaqa’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. His unwavering commitment to the youth and his fearless leadership will continue to inspire generations to come. He will always be remembered as a true hero and a champion of economic and social justice.
