South Africa mourns the passing of David Dabede Mabuza, who peacefully left us on Thursday last week at the age of 64. The news of his death has left the nation in shock and sadness, as we lost a remarkable leader and a true champion for the people.
Born in 1959 in Mpumalanga, Mabuza grew up in poverty but that did not stop him from dreaming big and working hard to achieve his goals. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Africa and a Diploma in Education from the University of Johannesburg, before diving into the world of politics.
Mabuza started his journey in politics as a student activist, fighting against the oppressive apartheid regime. He later joined the African National Congress (ANC) and dedicated his life to the struggle for liberation. His leadership qualities were noticed early on and he rose through the ranks, becoming the provincial secretary of the ANC in Mpumalanga in 1998.
He continued to climb the political ladder and in 2009, Mabuza was elected as the premier of Mpumalanga, a position he held for 9 years. During his time in office, he made significant contributions towards the development of the province and improving the lives of its people. From improving access to education and healthcare, to creating job opportunities, Mabuza’s leadership left a lasting impact on the province.
In 2018, he was elected as the Deputy President of South Africa and served alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa. His dedication and commitment to serving the country and its people were evident in his every action. Mabuza was a man of the people, always putting their needs above his own. His humility and compassion towards the less fortunate touched the hearts of many.
As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his life and all that he has accomplished. Mabuza was a true leader, not only in politics but also in his community. He was known for his selfless nature and his unwavering determination to bring about positive change.
