For Carson Hinzman, the fight that matters most is happening off the field, and he’s joining forces with the full support of the Buckeye community.
As one of the most highly recruited offensive linemen in the country, Hinzman had his pick of top programs to play for. But when it came down to making his decision, there was one factor that stood out above the rest – the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than himself. And that’s exactly what he found at Ohio State.
Under the leadership of head coach Ryan Day, the Buckeyes have always stood for something more than just football. They have a strong tradition of giving back to the community and making a positive impact in the world. And now, they are taking it to the next level with their latest campaign – a $44 million initiative to fight cancer.
For Hinzman, this was a cause that hit close to home. He lost his grandmother to cancer when he was just 10 years old, and it left a lasting impact on him. So when he heard about Ohio State’s campaign, he knew he had to be a part of it.
“It’s just something that I was trying to find in a school, something that was bigger than football,” Hinzman said. “And this was just the perfect opportunity for me to do that.”
The campaign, aptly named “But for Ohio State, We Fight,” aims to raise funds for cancer research and patient care at the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. The goal is to not only find a cure for cancer, but also to provide support and resources for those currently battling the disease.
And the Buckeye community has rallied behind this cause with full force. From players and coaches to alumni and fans, everyone is coming together to make a difference. Hinzman, along with his fellow offensive linemen, has pledged to donate a portion of their game-day per diem to the campaign. And they are also using their platform to spread awareness and encourage others to join the fight.
“It’s not just about us playing football, it’s about us making a difference in the world,” Hinzman said. “And I think that’s what makes Ohio State so special, is that we have this platform and we’re using it for something bigger than ourselves.”
This campaign is just one example of the strong sense of community and camaraderie that exists within the Ohio State football program. The players not only support each other on the field, but also off the field in their personal endeavors and passions. And this support extends beyond their own team, as they come together to support and uplift the entire Buckeye community.

“I think it’s important for our players to understand that they have a responsibility to give back,” Day said. “And when you have a platform like we do, you have an opportunity to make a difference in the world. And that’s what we’re trying to do.”
For Hinzman, being a part of this campaign and the Ohio State community has given him a sense of purpose and fulfillment that goes beyond the football field. He is proud to be a Buckeye and to be a part of a team that stands for something bigger.
“I think it’s just amazing to see how much support we have from the community and how much we’re able to give back,” Hinzman said. “And I think that’s what makes Ohio State so special, is that we’re not just a football team, we’re a family and we’re making a difference in the world.”
As the Buckeyes continue to dominate on the field, they are also making a difference off the field with their commitment to fighting cancer. And with the support of the entire Buckeye community, they are sure to make a significant impact
