SACP breaks from ANC, eyes full ward presence in local polls

The South African Communist Party (SACP) recently concluded a successful two-day lekgotla of its leadership this past weekend. The gathering, which took place on 28th and 29th of August, brought together leaders from different provinces to discuss and strategize the way forward for the party.

The lekgotla, which was held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic, was a significant milestone for the SACP as it provided a platform for the party to reflect on its achievements, challenges and map out its future plans. The theme of the lekgotla was “Deepen working-class unity and struggle for socialism.”

The SACP, one of the oldest and most influential political parties in South Africa, has played a crucial role in the country’s liberation struggle and continues to be a significant force in shaping the country’s political landscape. The party has remained steadfast in its commitment to its core values of socialism, non-racialism, and internationalism.

During the two-day gathering, the SACP leadership discussed a wide range of topics, including the current political landscape, the state of the economy, and the impact of the pandemic on the working class. The discussions were robust, and the leaders engaged in critical debates, providing valuable insights and perspectives on various issues.

One of the key highlights of the lekgotla was the discussion on the upcoming local government elections. The party emphasized the need for a united front with its alliance partners, the African National Congress (ANC) and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), to ensure a decisive victory for the progressive forces in the upcoming elections. The SACP leadership also stressed the importance of addressing the challenges facing local government, such as corruption and service delivery, to ensure that the needs of the people are met.

The SACP also reaffirmed its commitment to deepen the struggle for socialism and called for a more radical transformation of the economy. The party highlighted the need to address the deep-rooted inequalities that continue to plague our society, including the concentration of wealth and ownership in the hands of a few. The SACP leadership also called for a renewed focus on the working class and the need to protect and advance their interests.

The lekgotla also provided an opportunity for the party to reflect on its role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The SACP leadership commended the efforts of the government and frontline workers in managing the crisis and providing support to those in need. However, the party expressed concern over the impact of the pandemic on the working class and called for more decisive action to address the socio-economic challenges facing the country.

In his closing remarks, SACP General Secretary, Dr Blade Nzimande, emphasized the importance of unity and the need for the party to remain focused on its core values and principles. He also stressed the need for the party to continue engaging with the people and mobilizing them towards the struggle for a more equal and just society.

The two-day lekgotla of the SACP leadership was a resounding success, and the party emerged more united and determined to continue fighting for the rights of the working class. The discussions and debates were fruitful, and the party leadership showed a deep commitment to addressing the challenges facing our country.

As we move forward, it is crucial for all progressive forces to rally behind the SACP and its vision for a socialist South Africa. The party has shown time and again that it is a reliable and principled ally in the struggle for a better tomorrow. Let us unite and work together towards a more equal, just, and prosperous society for all.
