BCCI Apex Council meeting to take place on Dec 18; sponsorship for home matches on agenda

BCCI Apex Council Meets to Discuss Impact Player Rule, Sponsorship for Home Matches

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held its last Apex Council meeting in Mumbai on July 7th
this year. The council discussed the Impact Player rule in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a domestic cricket
tournament. The meeting was attended by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Arun
Dhumal, and other prominent figures from the cricket board.

The Impact Player rule was proposed and discussed in the meeting. According to the rule, teams that reach
the knockout stage of the tournament can add an extra cricketer in their team as an impact player. The
added player can be selected from outside the original playing eleven. The addition of an impact player
will provide the team with much-needed strength when going into crucial knock-out matches. The rule will
help promote the all-rounder pattern, which is one of the most important aspects of the game.

Another key agenda discussed in the meeting was the sponsorship of home matches. BCCI President
Ganguly proposed a partnership between the board and a leading multi-national company to provide
financial support for the home matches. The move was supported by the other council members, who
believed that such a partnership would not only bring more money to the board but also generate more
interest in the sport.

The Apex Council also discussed the state-level cricket tournaments that are held throughout India. The
council members agreed that more financial support should be provided to the local cricket associations
organising these tournaments. The council also discussed incentives for local cricket players who
participate in the state-level tournaments.

The last agenda of the meeting was the upcoming tour of the Indian cricket team to England in August.
The council discussed the safety protocols that the team would be following during the tour. The BCCI
President ensured that all the safety protocols will be followed at all times, and that the team will be
well-prepared for the upcoming tour.

The BCCI Apex Council meeting was a productive one that addressed key issues concerning the sport in
India. The next meeting of the council is scheduled for December 18th, 2020, where the topics of
discussion will include the expansion of the domestic cricket circuit, the launch of the women’s IPL, and
the financial integration of the game at the grass-root level. With such progressive discussions, the
future of Indian cricket looks bright.
