American left must stand up against Venezuela takeover: Mokonyane

ANC First Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane recently made a call for the global left to come together and unite in the face of growing challenges and threats to progressive movements around the world. Speaking at the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties in Athens, Greece, Mokonyane emphasized the need for solidarity and cooperation among left-wing parties and organizations in order to effectively combat the rise of right-wing ideologies and policies.

Mokonyane highlighted the current global political climate, which has seen a rise in right-wing populism and the erosion of democratic values and institutions. She stressed that this is not just a local or regional issue, but a global one that requires a united response from the left. “The challenges we face are not confined to our own countries, but are part of a global struggle against the forces of capitalism, imperialism, and neo-colonialism,” she stated.

The ANC First Deputy Secretary-General also pointed out the importance of learning from each other’s experiences and sharing strategies in the fight against inequality, poverty, and social injustice. She urged the global left to come together and build a strong and united front that can effectively challenge the dominant neoliberal economic model and its devastating effects on the working class and marginalized communities.

Mokonyane’s call for unity and solidarity among the global left is timely and crucial. In recent years, we have witnessed the rise of right-wing leaders and movements in various parts of the world, from the United States to Europe and even in developing countries. These forces have capitalized on people’s fears and frustrations, often scapegoating marginalized groups and promoting divisive and discriminatory policies.

In this context, the global left must stand together and present a strong alternative to the dangerous ideologies of the right. This means not only coming together in words, but also in action. It means actively supporting and collaborating with each other’s struggles, whether it be for workers’ rights, gender equality, or environmental justice.

Mokonyane’s call also highlights the need for the global left to reflect on its own shortcomings and weaknesses. She emphasized the importance of self-criticism and self-correction in order to strengthen the movement and effectively address the challenges ahead. This requires a willingness to listen and learn from each other, as well as a commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the left.

The ANC First Deputy Secretary-General’s message is a reminder that the struggle for a more just and equal world is a collective one. It is not confined to one country or one group, but is a global fight that requires a united front. As she stated, “We must recognize that our struggles are interconnected and that our victories are shared.”

The call for the global left to come together is not a new one, but it is one that needs to be continuously reiterated and acted upon. The challenges we face today are immense, but so is the potential for change and progress when we stand together. Let us heed Mokonyane’s call and work towards a stronger, more united global left that can bring about a better world for all.
