Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) has accused President Trump of lying about holding talks with Iranian officials. In an interview with CNN’s “The Point” on Monday, Van Hollen stated that the President’s claims of progress in negotiations with Iran are simply not true.
“We know he’s lying when he says that the Iranians are talking with us and they’re about to give Donald Trump everything he wants. Yes, that’s a lie,” Van Hollen told host Kasie Hunt.
The Senator’s comments come after President Trump claimed last week that Iran was ready to negotiate and give the US everything they wanted. However, Van Hollen has made it clear that this is not the case.
“President Trump is trying to create a false narrative that he is making progress with Iran, when in reality, he has only escalated tensions and pushed us closer to a potential military conflict,” Van Hollen said.
