NPA slams threats against prosecutor in Malema firearm case

Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago has recently spoken out about the alarming increase in threats against prosecutors in South Africa. In a statement released to the media, Kganyago emphasized the seriousness of these threats and called for immediate action to be taken.

According to Kganyago, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has received numerous reports of prosecutors being threatened, intimidated, and even physically attacked. These threats have not only put the safety of prosecutors at risk, but also jeopardize the integrity of the justice system as a whole.

Kganyago stressed that these threats must be taken seriously and addressed with urgency. He stated, “Prosecutors play a crucial role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served. Any attempt to intimidate or harm them is an attack on the very foundation of our democracy.”

The spokesperson also highlighted the recent case of a prosecutor who was shot and killed in KwaZulu-Natal, further emphasizing the gravity of the situation. He urged the authorities to thoroughly investigate these threats and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Kganyago also called on the public to support and protect prosecutors in their line of duty. He stated, “Prosecutors are often faced with difficult and dangerous situations, and they deserve our respect and support. We must stand together to ensure that they can carry out their duties without fear or hindrance.”

The NPA has taken steps to address these threats, including providing prosecutors with security measures such as panic buttons and bulletproof vests. However, Kganyago emphasized that more needs to be done to ensure the safety of prosecutors and prevent any further attacks.

In addition to physical threats, Kganyago also expressed concern about the increasing number of social media attacks against prosecutors. He stated, “We have seen a rise in online harassment and defamation of prosecutors, which not only affects their personal lives but also undermines their credibility and the public’s trust in the justice system.”

Kganyago urged the public to use social media responsibly and refrain from making baseless accusations against prosecutors. He also called on social media platforms to take action against those who use their platforms to spread false information and incite violence against prosecutors.

In conclusion, Kganyago reiterated the NPA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of prosecutors. He stated, “We will not tolerate any threats or attacks against our prosecutors. We will work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.”

He also urged the public to report any threats or attacks against prosecutors to the authorities and to support the NPA in its efforts to uphold the rule of law. “Together, we can create a safe and just society for all,” Kganyago concluded.

In light of the recent threats against prosecutors, it is imperative that we take Kganyago’s words seriously and work towards creating a safer environment for those who serve our justice system. Let us stand together and show our support for prosecutors, who play a vital role in upholding the values of democracy and justice in our country.
