Claudia Sheinbaum and CATEM join forces to promote workers’ rights, highlighting the link between the nation’s development and the prosperity of its workforce. In a landmark event for the labor movement in Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who leads the national effort to defend the Fourth Transformation, unveiled a key alliance with the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) at the organization’s XV Ordinary National Congress in Mexico City. Sheinbaum, recognizing Mexico’s current positive trajectory, emphasized the need to continue enhancing labor rights. She expressed, “Our shared goal is crucial: to avoid reverting to a past filled with corruption and privilege, and to progress with the Fourth Transformation of our public life.” The creation of over 10,000 Labor Defense Committees within CATEM as part of the Fourth Transformation is a concrete step towards this goal.
Her commitment to the workforce extends to protecting their wages and benefits, in line with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s vision that prioritizes the welfare of the most vulnerable to ensure the country’s prosperity.
Senator Pedro Haces Barba, Secretary-General of CATEM, pointed out the achievements from the collaboration between the government and labor representatives, such as raising the minimum wage and bettering work conditions. He underlined the importance of continuing these advancements according to the 4T principles, with Sheinbaum leading the charge.
Senator Ricardo Monreal emphasized the critical need to maintain and strengthen the bond between workers, the government, and employers to ensure the enhancement of labor rights. He remarked, “Our alliance with Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum is pivotal at this juncture.”
The congress drew significant figures from politics and business, demonstrating widespread support for the initiative.
